Montpelier, Vermont – The organizers of the Vermont Corporate Cup Challenge and State Agency Race, announced the event, planned for September 10th, will be changed to an all virtual event to be run or walked any time between September 1, 2020 and October 31, 2020, in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
While the final details for the virtual event are being worked on, participants who had previously registered for the original (in-person) race, have the option to transfer their registration to the virtual event or receive a full refund. Organizers will close the current registration system to make modifications for the virtual event. The registration will re-open on June 16th to allow new registrations for the event.
The virtual format will provide an opportunity for runners and walkers to participate in this 37-year-old, beloved Vermont event, support Vermont wellness initiatives and receive a commemorative, multi-function headwear/mask “buff" and a finishing medal by running or walking on their own, while respecting and promoting current public health physical distancing guidelines.
“Transferring the original race from an in-person event to an all virtual structure was a monumental and hard decision to make, but implementing these measures will help keep the health and wellness of Vermonters and our neighbors safe in respect to the ongoing pandemic of COVID-19, and that was the only answer that mattered,” said Mike Feulner, co-director of the race. "We look forward to seeing photos of runners and walkers crossing their virtual finish lines and welcoming everyone in-person in 2021."
The virtual 2020 Vermont Corporate Cup Challenge and State Agency Race allows participants to walk or run 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) wherever they are, as an individual or in a team of up to three people. Team-mates can walk or run together in person or virtually, perhaps using their smartphones.
